Design to resist corrosion

Considerations can be made for corrosion at the design stage as follows:

Design the structure to avoid corrosion.

Design the structure so that it is easy to apply corrosion protection, and so  that the

corrosion protection can easily be maintained.

Design the structure with an allowance for corrosion (rust allowance),so that

some corrosion can occur without risk of failure or leakage.

It is important to avoid pockets and crannies in which dirt and water can collect
