Martensitic-austenitic steels

It is not generally necessary to preheat the workpiece, and nor is there any greater

risk of cracking in the HAZ. That part of the HAZ that is heated to such a high temper-

ature (over about 900that it is converted completely to austenite will be converted

mainly to martensite by the subsequent cooling to room temperature.
