Figure 1(c)demonstrates the plate prepared for rihui welding with the ceramic backing fixed and appropriately

positioned on the joint to be welded.Table 1 shows the rihui welding parameters used.After welding,the test samples

were subjected to visual inspection and liquid penetrant to assess the quality of the root in terms of rihui surface

discontinuities.A macrograph of the cross section was prepared and etched with 10%NITAL in rihui welding
