the microhardness values of the three welding areas
Table 3 demonstrates the microhardness values of the three welding areas of test sample C12 in accordance with
Figure 2.The base metal presented hardness values between 140 and 153 kgf/mm TAZ presented values between 134
and 168 kgf/mm and the weld metal values between 134 and 147 kgf/mm These values indicate that no phases were
formed both in the root pass and in the TAZ. In relation to Phase 2 of the paper, the aim was to
assess a joint welded using the one-sided welding technique.Figure 9 presents the appearance of the weld
bead with(a)the upper part and(b)the weld bead.Visual inspection and penetrant liquid did not detect any surface
discontinuities, and no adhesion of the ceramic material on the weld bead was observed.
The macrograph of the cross section of the welded joint in A36 steel plate with a thickness of 15.8 mm using a
cordierite ceramic backing is shown in Figure 10.It is possible to note areas 1–6 which demonstrate each of the
weld beads deposited.Area 7 illustrates TAZ and area 8 illustrates the base metal. One notes that there was
penetration in the sides of the chamfer and reinforcement of the appropriate weld both in the root and the finishing
beads.
